What’s happening at Incarnation

Join our email list to receive weekly updates, spiritual reflections, and access information for offerings held via Zoom. Here are a few highlights!

Ecclesia Ministries

Every third Sunday of the month, parishioners are invited to the Parish Dining Room at 12:30 pm to help make sandwiches and pack lunches for Ecclesia Ministries of New York, which serves those who are food and housing insecure.

The Rev. Canon Deacon Denise LaVetty serves an Ecclesia congregation that currently worships in the courtyard of Church of the Transfiguration (29th Street, between 5th and Madison) every Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Parishioners are also invited to attend this 2:00 pm service of Holy Eucharist and then distribute the lunches.

Help make worship meaningful

Liturgy is the “work of the people” and requires a village of volunteers – ushers, lay readers, chalice bearers, altar guild, church tour guides, and coffee hour hosts. If you would like to serve in leadership at any of our Sunday or weekday worship services, please contact the Rev. Adrian Dannhauser.

Dedicate a Hymnal

Sing to the Lord a new song! (Psalm 96:1)

With our organ undergoing restoration, we are using the piano in worship. Perhaps you’ve noticed an expansion of our congregational singing repertoire? That’s because the piano lends perfectly to pieces from the African American and gospel traditions found in the Episcopal hymnal “Lift Every Voice and Sing II” (LEVAS). Soon we’ll be purchasing copies of LEVAS for the pews! We are excited to present these hymnals to the glory of God and for service in the life of our congregation. You are invited to dedicate a hymnal to honor someone special or a special occasion. The dedication cost is $25 per hymnal, and there will be a book plate placed on the inside cover to note the dedication as well as the donor. CLICK HERE to donate $25 and dedicate a hymnal. Be sure to type your dedication in the memo line.

Education for Ministry

Are you looking to deepen your faith? To learn more about the Bible, Christian tradition, church history, and theology? If so, Incarnation offers a high-quality course to interested parishioners — Education for Ministry (EfM). EfM is a four-year Christian formation program designed for lay people by the School of Theology at University of the South (Sewanee, TN). For more information on EfM at Incarnation, please join us for an online introduction on Wednesday, July 31, at 7:00 pm or an in-person meeting on Sunday, August 11, at 12:30 pm. Your hosts for the introductory sessions will be the Rev. J. Gregory Morgan, new group mentor in 2024, and the Rev. Canon Deacon Denise LaVetty of the church staff, our diocesan contact for the program. Contact Deacon Denise for Zoom access information if you are interested in the online introductory session.

Movie Night!

Join us for a combined fellowship and learning opportunity on Tuesday, August 13, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. The subject of our gathering will be the film Freud’s Last Session. Freud’s Last Session is a 2023 film starring Anthony Hopkins, based on a play by the same name. It imagines a fictional debate between Freud and prominent Christian author C.S. Lewis, as Lewis defends his reasons for rejecting atheism and becoming a Christian. We’ll gather in the Parish House Living Room for some refreshments and a viewing of the film. Afterwards, we’ll stick around for a discussion of its key themes and message. Please contact the Rev. Dr. Nate Lee to RSVP.

Moravian Open Door BBQ Blowout

Moravian Open Door has invited us to join them for their annual Barbecue Blowout on Saturday, August 31, at 1:00 pm. This is a resident promoted event that they celebrate each year, and this year they want to share it with their friends at Incarnation. There will be great food, great music, a lot of fun and maybe some fancy dance moves. Bring a big smile and a happy heart to 347 East 18th Street to celebrate the end of summer and the joy of fellowship.
