Jet Set Activists

Last week, church leaders journeyed to the Dominican Republic to, as the Episcopal News Service reports,”share their stories and organize around issues of climate justice.” Since Episcopal Church headquarters and ultimately assessment-payers in local churches picked up the tab for this, we may wonder why the conference had to be held in the balmy Dominican Republic at the beginning of tourist season. Some will further wonder whether we need to spend money and energy on yet more task forces and conferences and committees to promote “climate justice;” concern with this issue isn’t exactly in need of publicity. —J.
