Reading Scripture with the Church Fathers

A Four-Week Reading Course with the Rev. Nathaniel Jung-Chul Lee, PhD

Join the Rev. Dr. Nate Lee for a course on Christopher Hall’s Reading Scripture with the Church Fathers. Learn how these early Christians–including their world, their perspective, and their interpretation of Scripture–can help us grasp the deep roots of what has grown into the faith we practice today. Starting June 15, classes will be held on four consecutive Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm on Zoom. All are welcome, even if you haven’t read the book. Click here to read Nate’s full description of the course.

Sign up for a Summer Small Group!

Our summer small group series begins in July and will focus on Being Disciples by Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury. In this book, Williams turns his attention to what is required for us to continue following Jesus and growing in faith. In doing so, it asks questions about holiness and the virtues, forgiveness, and how to maintain faith and a spiritual life in the midst of the world we live in today.

Small groups will meet weekly for three consecutive weeks, and there are already three small groups to choose from:

  • Tuesdays, 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Zoom (begins July 12)
  • Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Zoom (begins July 13)
  • Thursdays, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Parish House (begins July 14)

Contact the Rev. Dr. Nate Lee if you would like to participate in one of these lay-led small groups or to suggest another time and day of the week for creating an additional group.

Moravian Open Door Birthday BBQ

This September is the 35th anniversary of Moravian Open Door, a transitional housing facility for homeless adults and community partner of Incarnation.

We are kicking off the festivities on Saturday, July 23, at 3:00 p.m., with a “Birthday Barbecue” at MOD (347 E. 18th St.). It will be an afternoon of fellowship, fun and food!

All are invited to the party. Suggested donation of $20. Kids eat free. RSVP to the Rev. Adrian Dannhauser.

Hour Children BBQ

Join us Wednesday, August 3, at 11:00 a.m. on Roosevelt Island at Lighthouse Park for a barbecue, bubble blowing, face painting, and other serious fun with the kids at Hour Children, a provider of services to incarcerated or previously incarcerated moms and their kids. If you can help set up, grill and assemble food, clean up, or lead activities, even better! Prepare to have a blast! RSVP to the Rev. Adrian Dannhauser.

Hour Children - Volunteers Needed

Members of the Hour Children Committee are preparing a list of available volunteers, including their contact information and areas of interest, that we can give to our liaison at Hour Children so she can reach out to them directly when the need arises. Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
  • tutoring children
  • teaching English as a second language
  • mentoring a program participant
  • supporting the working women program
  • stocking the food pantry
Everything except stocking the food pantry can be done remotely, and all volunteers are required to provide proof of vaccination status. If you would like to be included on the list of volunteers that we will pass along to Hour Children, please email the Rev. Adrian Dannhauser, and she will put you in touch with the Hour Children Committee Co-Chairs.

Receiving from the Reserved Sacrament

Incarnation is offering the sacrament of Holy Communion (in one kind) to individuals who do not feel comfortable attending in-person worship. If you would like to come to the Parish House to receive the host from the reserved sacrament, please contact the Rev. Adrian Dannhauser. We are always eager to share the gift of God’s grace with you.

Spiritual Tips and Biblical Reflections

We are collecting spiritual tips and reflections on Scripture from members and friends of the parish. If you have a favorite prayer practice, devotional book, Bible verse or other source of spiritual nourishment, contact the clergy to share it with the larger Incarnation community. Submissions in writing or video recording (up to 2 minutes) are welcome. Thank you for helping us “encourage one another and build each other up” as the Body of Christ. (1 Thess. 5:11).

Birthday Card Program

We are sending birthday cards as another way of letting you know of your importance to our parish community. So far, we have collected over 125 birthdays. If you would like us to remember you on your special day, please email the month and date of your birth, as well as your address, to office@churchoftheincarnation.org so that we might update our records.

Incarnation and Social Media

We are using social media to help spread the good news about Incarnation and all that we offer. Please be sure to “like” Church of the Incarnation Manhattan on Facebook and follow @IncarnationNY on Twitter and @churchoftheincarnationnyc on Instagram.
