EMINDER August 15 – 22

The Gospel for this Sunday, August 16, is John 6:51-58

Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live forever.”

RESOURCES FOR REFLECTION

On the Gospel Reading: a prayer by John Donne

“I beg of thee my daily bread; and as thou gavest me the bread of sorrow for many days, and since the bread of hope for some, and this day the bread of possessing, in rising by that strength, which thou the God of all strength hast infused into me, so, O Lord, continue to me the bread of life: the spiritual bread of life, in a faithful assurance in thee; the sacramental bread of life, in a worthy receiving of thee; and the more real bread of life in an everlasting union to thee.” Read the full meditationhere.

LOOKING FOR LAY LEADERS

The program year is coming up, and we’re looking for worship leaders and Sunday school teachers. If you’d like to explore leading in worship as an acolyte or teaching Godly Play to the children of Incarnation, please contact the Rev. Adrian Dannhauser.

We’re also looking for people to serve on the Altar Guild. While appointments are made by the Rector, you are invited to have an initial conversation with Adrian to learn about this ministry of reverence and devotion in preparing our most sacred space for worship.
