Faith
& Charity
Edward Burne-Jones
Henry Holiday of London |

| In
the nave is a window designed to show to sides of the Christian
character, Faith and Charity, as suggested by the figures of the
Virgin Mary and Dorcas (an early pious Christian woman who was raised
from the dead by Saint Peter and noted for her good works; she is
sometimes called Tabitha). The upper portion displays Christ and
again the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus. The inscription reads:
In as much as you have done it with one of the least of these
my brethren, you have done it with me. The window was designed
by Henry Holiday of London, after a design by Edward Burne-Jones,
a Pre-Raphaelite painter and close associate of William Morris. |
