The Kitchen Club
at the Church of the Incarnation

Upcoming Events

Nov 1 (Wed) in the Parish House
FRESH PASTA

Make pasta from scratch: flour, egg, and a pasta roller! Make lasagne from off-the-shelf pantry items, without boiling the noodles first — no special ingredients needed. And in a display of cross cultural convenience, use wonton wrappers to make stuffed pasta. Dinner is what we make, so come hungry!! We look forward to seeing you there — all are welcome! For more information and to let us know you plan to come, please inquire by e-mail or call the church office at 212-689-6350.

What is the Incarnation Kitchen Club??

In 2004, the Parish House kitchen was renovated to new millennium standards (the previous renovation had brought it to about the 1940s in terms of modernization). To celebrate the kitchen's new potential, the Kitchen Club was born! Members pitch in to organize and help with parish events (like the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, or the Parish Dinner), create jams and jellies for the Christmas Fair, and make meals for those who are home-bound. And we get together on a social basis, too!

We're sure we'll do a lot more, so come and join us! E-mail or call us (212-689-6350) for more information, and to convey your thoughts and ideas.

SOUP, SOUP, BEAUTIFUL SOUP

For most, "soup" is something out of a can, or maybe a cube or powder reconsituted in hot water. Set yourself free and learn how to make soup out of what you have in your 'fridge — if you have a non-sweet something in your refrigerator, bring it to the meeting and we'll make our own version of "stone soup." And because it's hot, we'll also make a gazpacho and maybe a fruit soup for dessert, too!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY ...

... is a much-beloved Incarnation tradition which marks the official start of preparations for the Christmas Fair in December. Come and help craft items for sale! For the first time, the Kitchen Club is combining forces with Laurie Mygatt to create jams, jellies, and other food items for sale. (We'll serve a yummy dinner, too!) Can't cook? Please come — there is plenty to help with besides cooking — making ornaments, pricing and sorting items, assembling crafts, etc.

ALL THINGS BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL — TOFU

KC#2 is all about tofu and how to cook with it. We'll present a dinner showing several different types of tofu (noodles, soft, firm, medium) and different types of cooking, including how to marinade, soup, grill, pan-fry, stir-fry, and make a no-cook refrigerator chocolate pie with tofu! We'll also talk about cultures which use tofu as their main source of protein — the hows and whys, economically, practically, spiritually. And Brian Lamb promises to make some cold tea — not with tofu, but you know his tea will be delicious!

JAMMIN' and JELLIN'

The inaugural event for the Kitchen Club is Jammin' and Jellin' — a sort of workshop. Brian Lamb will demonstrate how to make his jalapeño and mint jellies, which he reports: "goes great with roasted meat"! Maki Hoashi will show you a very popular strawberry conserve — made in the microwave! Brian Hoashi and Laurie Mygatt will give pointers for the traditional "open-kettle" method of jamming (along with tips and tricks to make it rather painless). Then we'll have DINNER! Roast turkey, grilled tofu, etc. with Brian Lamb's jellies; pound cake with jams and whipped cream, too!
