E-MINDER: the Church of the Incarnation

THE WEEK OF JUNE 3–JUNE 10, 2007

This week the Church remembers Saint Columba, the sixth-century founder and Abbot of Iona (an island monastery in Scotland).  The island now houses a contemporary, ecumenical Christian community; you can learn more about it here.

O God, who by the preaching of your blessed servant Columba caused the light of the Gospel to shine in Scotland: Grant, we pray, that, having his life and labors in remembrance, we may show our thankfulness to you by following the example of his zeal and patience; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

COMING UP AT INCARNATION

Tuesday, June 12         7:00 pm.  Twenties and Thirties’ Drinks and Discussion.  Meet at the Parish House and we’ll walk to a local bar.  Topic: “Just War?”  We will discuss how just-war theory has been developed and applied by Christians, and we’ll debate its relevance and fulfillment in our nation’s current military engagements.  We will also question whether our concern as Christians is solely with warfare, looking at a program entitled “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” which seeks to enlist churches in the work of caring for soldiers and their families when the soldiers return from combat.  First drink – be it a Coke or a beer – is on the church.
