The Week of April 29 – May 6, 2007

 

This week the church remembers Monnica, mother of the fourth-century theologian Augustine of Hippo.

 

 

O Lord, through spiritual discipline you strengthened your servant Monnica to persevere in offering her love and prayers and tears for the conversion of her husband and of Augustine their son: Deepen our devotion, we pray, and use us in accordance with your will to bring others, even our own kindred, to acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Wednesday, May 2:

12:15 pm. Holy Eucharist

  6:30 pm. Holy Eucharist with homily.

  7:00 pm. Final Confirmation/Inquirer’s Class

  7:15 pm.  Next meeting of the Women’s Group.  Topic: “Women of Faith in the Sciences.”  We will hear from a panel of female parishioners, who have studied or worked in the sciences, about their experiences and their faith.  There will be plenty of time for questions and conversation.  There will be hor d’ oeuvres and beverages.

 

Friday, May 4:

                                    12:15 pm. Holy Eucharist with Prayer for Healing.

Wednesdays (5:00 pm - 7:30 pm)

Saturdays (1:00 pm - 4:00 pm).

The lessons for this Sunday are:
Acts 13:44-52 or Leviticus 19:1-2, 9-18; Revelation 19:1, 4-9 or Acts 13:44-52;  John 13:31-35; Psalm 145 or 145:1-9.

*The Adult Forum/Bible Study meets every Sunday at 10:00 am in the Parish House Dining Room.  We are taking a close look at the Holy Spirit as portrayed in Scripture, tradition, and the Arts.  

 

 

Monday, May 7             7:00 pm. Men’s Group meets in Parish House.  Refreshments served.

Friday, May 11

  6:30 pm onward.  A Parish Benefit to raise funds to repair the roof will be held at the Linburn residence.  The evening will include cocktails, a buffet supper, and music provided by Andrew Ousley.  Levels of giving are set at seventy-five dollars per person, thirty-five for persons under 35, and one hundred fifty dollars for patrons.  If you received an invitation in the mail, please respond with the enclosed reply card; otherwise, please call the church to RSVP, 212-689-6350.  We hope you’ll support this effort and attend the event.
